DAY TOUR AROUND HANOI ON MOTORBIKE

Day Tour Introduction

This one-day motorbike tour from Hanoi is a long-distance riding adventure, mainly using sealed roads and scenic country routes. You will ride approximately 250 km in one day, which is quite a long distance for a day trip. However, the reward is a visit to the spectacular “dry” Halong Bay in Ninh Binh, one of the most beautiful landscapes in Northern Vietnam. In general, this Hanoi motorbike day tour is designed for intermediate and advanced riders who are comfortable spending a full day on the motorcycle.

DETAILED ITINERARY

We leave Hanoi at around 9:00 am, heading south from the city along the old National Road 1. The newer highway from Phap Van to Cau Gie is restricted to cars, so motorcycles must use the old road instead. Although it can be narrow and busy in places, it provides a more interesting introduction to the countryside outside Hanoi.

From there, we continue towards Ninh Binh and spend the day exploring some of the area’s most impressive historical and natural attractions.

Hoa Lu and Tam Coc – A popular day tour destination

Hoa Lu, around 90 km from Hanoi, was the ancient capital and an important military center during the Dinh Dynasty. Today, you can visit the historic Dinh and Le temples, which commemorate two important Vietnamese dynasties.

The surrounding limestone mountains helped make Hoa Lu a naturally protected location, with only limited access through the surrounding terrain. For a different perspective, you can also hike up Yen Ngua Hill and enjoy a panoramic view over the dramatic landscape of Hoa Lu and the surrounding countryside.

Bai Dinh Temple

The Bai Dinh Temple Spiritual and Cultural Complex is located on Bai Dinh Mountain in Gia Vien District, Ninh Binh Province. The complex combines an original small temple with a much larger modern Buddhist temple area.

It has become one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage destinations in Vietnam and attracts visitors from across the country. The huge complex, impressive architecture, and surrounding mountain scenery make Bai Dinh Temple an interesting stop during a motorbike tour of Ninh Binh.

Tam Coc

Tam Coc, located around 30 km from Hoa Lu and approximately 120 km from Hanoi, is one of the most famous attractions in Ninh Binh. It is often called “Halong Bay on land” or “dry Halong Bay” because of its spectacular limestone mountains rising dramatically from the surrounding landscape.

The area is best known for its scenic boat trip through three natural caves, which is where the name Tam Coc comes from. Surrounded by limestone karst peaks, rivers, and rice fields, the landscape is especially beautiful during the rice-growing season.

For motorcycle riders, the journey to Tam Coc is just as important as the destination. The route takes you away from Hanoi’s busy streets and into the quieter rural countryside of Northern Vietnam, making this a rewarding one-day motorcycle adventure.
